Many Hands: Stitching the Plymouth Tapestry

Tapestry Stitchers

Artist Elizabeth Creeden of Plymouth creates the original illustrations for each panel in the Tapestry series. Stitch designs for these extensive scenes are developed at the frame through the artist’s close collaboration with her team of volunteers.

At the launch of the Plymouth Tapestry project, several opportunities for members of the public to take a stitch at open sessions or special workshops were offered. After 2019, the artist developed a team of regular stitchers to work with her in the studio on a weekly basis.

Many of the volunteers have dedicated years of effort to the project. Together, they are producing an enduring legacy on America’s beginnings in early Plymouth.
