207th Annual Meeting & Forefathers Day
PILGRIM SOCIETY & PILGRIM HALL MUSEUM
The Annual Forefathers Day is traditionally observed by the Pilgrim Society on December 21st to mark the anniversary of the landing of the Mayflower Pilgrims in Plymouth in 1620.
The Pilgrim Society’s first Forefathers Day was held in 1820, the year of the organization’s founding and the 200th anniversary of the Pilgrims’ arrival. The event has even deeper roots. Since the early 18th century, the anniversary date of the Pilgrims’ arrival has been an occasion for social gatherings, dinners, sermons, singing, and thoughtful reflections on American history. This year’s event features acclaimed American historian Linda K. Kerber, presenting “Why Diamonds Really Are a Girl’s Best Friend,” a timely exploration of women’s relationship to the Constitution in an era of change.
