Nicholas Snow

BORN: Unknown
DIED: November 15, 1676/Eastham

Nicholas Snow arrived in Plymouth on the Anne in 1623. His origins in England are uncertain. He may possibly have been from the Shoreditch area of London but that is not proven.

Sometime before 1627, he married Mayflower passenger Constance Hopkins, who had journeyed over with her father and stepmother, Stephen and Elizabeth Hopkins, her brother Giles, her half-sister Damaris and her half-brother Oceanus who was born during the voyage.

Nicholas Snow is listed as a freeman of Plymouth in 1633. The Snows moved from Plymouth to Nauset (later called Eastham), on Cape Cod in the 1640s. The couple had 12 children, although only nine have been documented by genealogists. On the Cape, Nicholas served as surveyor, constable and selectman.

The inventory of Nicholas’ estate, taken at the time of his death, includes carpenter’s tools. This may have been his trade. His inventory also included several books, indicating that he was literate. Nicholas held various minor positions in Plymouth, such as highway surveyor.

Nicholas died in November of 1676; his wife Constance died a year later in October of 1677. Before his death, Nicholas Snow wrote a will.
