Burial Hill History Tour Series – Homespun Independence: Plymouth Women in the Revolution
Homespun Independence: Plymouth Women in the Revolution
with Dr. Donna Curtin and the Mercy Otis Warren Society
How did patriotic women in Plymouth show support for their country’s cause? Reviving the homespun movement that had swept the country before the war during the non-importation crisis, local women took to their spinning wheels, helped provide supplies for Continental soldiers and sailors, and limited consumption at home as ways to “feel nationly.”
The Plymouth Antiquarian Society and Pilgrim Hall Museum partner in a free public tour series of Plymouth’s historic Burial Hill.
Each first Saturday of the month, a thematic tour of the ancient burying ground will reveal facets of Plymouth’s evolving story over generations. See map of Burial Hill area here. Please plan to wear comfortable walking shoes, as terrain may be uneven. In the event of inclement weather, please check our Facebook page for cancellation/postponement info.
