Two routes are described, identified as SHORT ROUTE and LONG ROUTE.   The shorter route takes about half an hour, while the longer takes an hour or more, depending on your walking speed and what you stop to look at along the way. They both begin and end at the Leiden American Pilgrim Museum in the Beschuitsteeg, a short street that runs from the Nieuwe Rijn River to the clock tower of the Hooglandsekerk. You will find this street on the map, one block southeast of the round castle called Den Burcht, in the exact center of town.
